Planning Tip of the Week

Have you been wondering what happened to your paper social security statements? Well the social security administration stopped mailing statements last year.

However, accessing your social security information is easier than ever. Visit them online : http://www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount.

Once you establish your account, you can see your information regarding benefits for retirement, disability, survivors etc. If there is an error in your information, you will still need to call them directly, changes cannot be made online.

For security reasons, the website is for informational purposes only, and benefits cannot be elected or changed via the website. It is merely an electronic version of the statement you used to receive. Private information is used to log into the site, but your personal information is not on the website itself, so for those worried about identity theft need not be concerned.
